About Us

Alhaja was born from the union of two sisters from another life: María and Irene. After more than 15 years of shared experience, they learned and evolved together, managing to encompass every area of the project. Thanks to their background in purchasing and design, they decided to bring their most personal dream to life; a project that began in 2020.

Alhaja, which comes from Arabic and means “jewel” or “precious ornament,” finds its essence in nature, history, traditions, and the folklore of ancient cultures, with a clear connection to its Spanish roots.

Alhaja is a way of seeing the world and being fascinated by the beauty and folklore that surrounds us. It starts from a foundation of respect for the planet, committing to sustainable consumption and production. To this end, it uses recyclable materials and shows its constant support for the local economy and excellence. Research in the field of sustainability, alongside design, is one of Alhaja's most important areas. They work with Spanish factories that are certified members of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) and are striving to achieve traceability for all materials used, as well as for the recycling process of the raw materials.

María and Irene pursue timelessness as one of Alhaja's ethical values. For them, design is a personal expression that transcends the fleeting trends of prêt-à-porter. They create carefully and calmly, resulting in unique, high-quality, gender-neutral heirlooms that are preserved over time and continue to move you just as they did on the first day. Each piece of jewelry finds its inspiration in personal memories, travels, and their grandmothers' jewelry.

They incorporate cultured pearls into their designs, creating a union between the classic and the contemporary, as well as crystals and semi-precious stones that accompany the wearer, providing the same protective energy our ancestors sought. More than 90% of the collection, plated in 3 microns of 18-karat gold or made of hallmarked 925 sterling silver, is produced in factories and workshops in Spain, thus ensuring the authenticity and artisanal quality that defines us.

MATERIAL

Every metal, stone, and pearl in our jewellery is a testament to a commitment: to honor the past without compromising the future. More than 90% of our collection is crafted from recycled metals, from 925 silver to 18-karat gold, ensuring a responsible origin and balance with nature.

To this end, we work with suppliers certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), ensuring that extraction and recycling processes meet the highest standards of sustainability and ethics. We are currently moving toward total traceability of our materials, consolidating a transparent supply chain with low environmental impact.

MANUFACTURING

Jewellery, in its purest form, is an art that requires patience, skill, and soul. At Alhaja, we collaborate with workshops and factories in Spain that preserve expertise passed down through generations. There, expert hands shape every piece, perpetuating a craft that is a cultural heritage.

Beyond aesthetics, our production model generates a positive impact on the community: we support local employment, keep jewellery mastery alive, and reduce our carbon footprint. Furthermore, we guarantee fair working conditions and foster a more ethical and sustainable industry, aligned with our values of respect and responsibility.

PROCESS

Timelessness is a principle that guides every decision at Alhaja because we believe that designing pieces that endure is an act of sustainability. Faced with accelerated consumption, we opt for slow creation and conscious consumption, producing only what is necessary and avoiding the unnecessary waste of resources.

Furthermore, we are in constant evolution, researching new ways to reduce our impact. We are committed to promoting recycling in our manufacturing processes and continuing to explore techniques that minimize our environmental footprint, ensuring that our way of creating is as conscious as the story we want to tell with each piece of jewellery.
